Summary

The article presents various faces of Otherness on the exemple of W. A. Lasocki’s work Wojtek spod Monte Cassino [Wojtek from Monte Cassino]. Firstly, it focuses on the author who, as a fromer Anders’ soldier, was condemned to exile. His stay in exile meant building his life from scratch. And here we encounter political, social, cultural and ethnic otherness. The first two become apparent in the work that demands the activation of the historical, sociological, political, and exile context. And finally, the third element of exemplifaction concerns the protagonist – his Otherness, dissimalirity, but also strangeness and familiarty, which imply different types of Otherness – intellectual, physical, and mental.
