The article focuses on the description of 18 names of South American animals used by Adolf Dygasiński in the short story Christmas Eve in Superagua. The names that were examined were the “foreign ones” and therefore considered “other” by the reader (terming designations that do not occur in the Polish nature). The vocabulary was subjected to a lexical and semantic analysis, determined was also its stylistic value.
