Summary

The form of Alexander Fredro’s literary text Trzy po trzy [Topsy Turvy Talk], as grasped by Fredrologists, indicates various literary inspirations, which are united by romantic amorphism. The structure of the Romantic noble tale (in its soldier variant) is analysed in the article as the dominant one and at the same time as compatible with the message of affirmation of existence coming from the diary. Fredro’s work is interpreted in the context of the attitude of affirmation in literature, psychology and philosophy. In conclusion, the tale and its affirmative character of the past is attributed to the creative premise of the comedy writer, leaving to future generations a literary work that has (like all tales) a single purpose - the memory of times past, of traditions and customs, and finally - of Polishness lost through the partitions, protected from destruction and oblivion by generations unfamiliar with the free Republic at that time.
