Street names not only serve for topographical and spatial orientation but also reflect historical and socio-cultural conditions and act as a political instrument. They are, therefore, frequently changed. Numerous streets and squares in Poland were renamed during the German occupation. This article examines the renaming of streets and squares in Dąbrowa Górnicza. An attempt is made to determine what trends can be observed in the renaming process in relation to the function of hodonyms.
