Summary

The author analyzes the extended interview with Zofia Posmysz and traces themes that are absent or underrepresented in men’s war narratives (nudity, hair cutting, dirt, lack of hygiene). Her narration is one of the few in which the female experience is valued, and the fact of being in the camp is not depicted from a martyrological perspective. Posmysz reconstructs her first meeting with the prototype of the character Anneliese Franz, as well as her post-war fate, making the interview a valuable source of information about processing the experience of being a female prisoner. The active attitude of the journalist, who inquires, confronts the facts, and tries to understand what Posmysz is talking about, also proves to be significant.
