Summary

The article concerns the frequency of the main parts of speech (noun, verb, adjective, and adverb), with particular emphasis on the quantitative proportions between nouns and adjectives in contemporary Polish book reportage from the perspective of linguistic genology. The relationship between these two parts of speech is referred to as the epithetization index (We). The degree of epithetization undoubtedly influences the style of texts, literary genres, and functional styles. It may indicate the degree of formality, semi-formality, or informality of a given text and serve as a tool for judging the colloquialism of a particular style or language. Contemporary book reportages (with an average We value of 2.8) lie between semi-formal spoken texts and written texts.
