The author of the present study analyzes handwritten dedications held in special collections of university libraries. The content of dedication formulas and the means of expression of compositional patterns are discussed. Careful attention is paid to the use of evaluation statements applied to the addresser and the addressee. Additionally, reference is made to the significance of dedications written by famous authors both for the addressees and researchers.
