Summary

The constant change that exposes an individual to the frailness of the surrounding world, which can be observed in Anna Frajlich’s poetry, is an invitation to reflect upon passing and persistence. This opposition, present in many of her poems, reveals the eternal drama of a person striving for happiness understood as harmony, but condemned to existence in a world that forces the person to go through the painful process of taming the fickle. Frajlich, focusing on human experiences, takes a closer look at herself and her own body. Reflection and fascination with her remarkable construction coexists with images which highlight movement. The body, in particular its interior, is a structured whole juxtaposed with stillness. The movement is presented by Frajlich from three angles: cyclicality combining anatomy and physiology (breathing), interference (pain), processes (pregnancy, menopause). The experience of the body is an act of cognition for the poet ranging from pleasure to suffering which are doomed to pass.
