Summary

The body as pretext. Selected issues of physicality in the prose of Milan Kundera. In the article, several issues concerning the question of body are analzyed in selected novels by Milan Kundera (The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Book of Laughter and Forgetting, Life is Elsewhere). The body, carnality, eroticism, sexuality in Kundera’s prose are very often the starting point for a deeper reflection on the human condition in the modern world, they generate questions about identity, a human’s place in the world, human involvement in conflicts with others and with themselves.
