Summary

The purpose of this article is to recognize and identify the strategies of adaptation used by theatre director Radoslaw Rychcik for the stage production of „In the Solitude of Cotton Fields”. It premiered in Stefan Żeromski Theatre and is based on the work of Bernard-Marie Koltès. Rychcik’s approach is true to the original and is almost entirely composed of monologues performed by two main characters. Their stories is told through the power, dynamism and rhythm of the live music performance. Both actors were able to show their wide range of artistic expression. The „third actor” turned out to be the music itself. The article was also enriched by a cultural perspective represented by one of the anthropological theories – Marc Augé’s concept of non-places. It is a way to materialize the non-existent scenography.
