Summary

The author shows the influence some philosophical theories of ethics had on Krzysztof Kieślowsky´s films. The philosophy of dialogue found in the thoughts of Polish philosopher Józef Tischner or Dostojevsky´s interpretation of freedom are present in his works.
The importance of the dialogue and acceptance of all kind of differences is emphasized in Ryszard Kapuściński´s book of esseys titled “The Other”. It gives an impulse to start thinking what does “being different” really mean.
Kieślowsky provides us “face to face” meeting with freedom in a world full of emptiness where the right to freedom is not equal for all. However, a lost soul can still be saved, as there is a solution – isolation can be overcome through dialogue with other people, the common hope for every hero of Kieślowsky’s movies. This is the main message of his works, a message worth remembering.
