The article discusses group language behaviours on the example of the institution of the army and the community of recruits who perform compulsory basic military service in the Polish People’s Army in the 1970s and 1980s. At the time, a negative social phenomenon of the so-called “soldiers’ wave” took place. Several journals of the former soldiers, serving military service in the times of the Polish People‘s Republic, were published in the last decade, including J. Ruszar, A. Pawlak, or W. Pasławski. Those journals provide the basis for the analysis of the sociolinguistic phenomenon in this article. The analysis of this material allowed to prove the relation between the hierarchical structure of the institution with its own system of stratification, and the linguistic behaviour of the group which evaluates military reality in the studied period in a specific way.
