Summary

The study concerns the phenomenon of Byronism in the research of Marian Zdziechowski – an outstanding literary historian and critic living at the turn of nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Attention was focused on the analysis of the two-volume monograph Byron and his age. Zdziechowski, in understanding the definition of bajronism, goes beyond his epoch, trying to combine this aesthetic trend with the ethical dimension. In his opinion, the pursuit of perfection is the essence of romantic bajronism. Attention was also paid to the differences in the assessment of the literary trend in individual Western European countries and Slavic countries.
