The article explores the world of values shared by father and son, recorded in the letters of Stefan Żeromski and his son Adam. Based on the representative method from the epistolary collection, an attempt is made to read these ego-documents to identify values important to both the sender and the receiver (such as health, memory/presence, and common interests). The image of their private relationship emerging from the letters is compared to the “official”, publicly accessible, idealized narrative written in a memoir titled “About Adam Żeromski”. The text reveals an interesting interplay between the intimate (father-son correspondence) and the contextually determined commemorative vision, the latter fitting into the individual’s preferred way of modeling the story about the prematurely deceased “Golden Scout”.
