Summary

The article examines the place and role of animals in social life within Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna’s memoir prose. The paper focuses on the various depictions of animals (domestic, farm and wild) and how they function in the family and a larger social or ethnic group. The research has shown that the relationships between humans and other creatures are given a profound dimension in Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna's work, depicting a world of mutual connections and dependencies based on universal values and empathy.
