Summary

This article on the debut novel by Aleksandra Tarnowska attempts to describe several levels of meaning in the text: the literal, which is a story about the life and dreams of an adolescent boy, and the metaphorical, which constitutes a supra-textual plane that gives the work a universal (mythical) sense. The article also seeks to conceptualise literary creation, rooted in the Orphic myth, as a particular form of cognition. The article does not equate the literary work analysed with the mythical storyline. The idea is rather to arrive at a set of references determined by certain components of the Orphic myth.
