The article is an attempt to describe the way of creating the protagonist of The Lexicon of Intimate Cities by Yurii Andrukhovych. The text has been interpreted in the context of a literary self-portrait, the consistency of which is achieved through an analysis of the system of reminders, repetitions, correlation, and interchangeability of elements. The study of this text undertaken in the context of Andrukhovych’s entire work allows us to conclude that his literary output can be treated as fragments of an endless whole. Their linking principle is not the plot, but rather juxtaposed bundles of motifs, episodes, and thoughts read in a synchronous layout. Andrukhovych’s books are united by the figure of the narrator, a more or less identifiable alter ego of the writer.
