Summary

The aim of the article is to analyze interrogative sentences in Ukrainian funeral laments from the Dnieper region. The collected research material was classified according to several criteria – the addressee and performer, content, form, and frequency of interrogative sentence usage in the texts. The use of interrogative constructions can be considered a stylistic-syntactic device that draws attention to the final and irreversible nature of death, expressing sorrow over the separation from the deceased. The presence of motifs characteristic of Ukrainian, as well as broader Slavic, funeral rituals was emphasized in the analyzed material – such as the departure on a journey or a visit of the deceased to their loved ones as a guest.
