Summary

The article concerns Juliusz Słowacki’s attitude towards everyday life. The research material are the poet’s letters, most of all the fragments about food and eating. The purpose of the analysis, which included letters from various periods of the artist’s life, was to verify the well-known view of Słowacki’s radical transformation and his rejection of everyday life matters in the 1840s. The results of the analysis allow to think of this view as a stereotype, burdening the reception of the poet’s writings, and also inscribed in the tradition of reading the poem Anhelli. The conclusion proposes a different view on the approach of mature Słowacki to the world – without dividing the reality into the spheres sacrum and profanum and without excessive spiritualisation of the material sphere.
