Summary

Sport is the most common temporary entertainment activity broadcasted via various media. Due to the crucial role of visuals over marginal meaning of journalistic commentary players are perceived in terms of their corporality. The first group characterised in the thesis is concerned with statements of the players’ utterances that emphasise necessity of exercising, hard work, the strain that is present in daily training as well as the endeavour to achieve perfection in what they do to prepare to their competitions. The representatives of the media see this issue from a different angle and point out the ideal body build, musculature as well as other aesthetic aspects. Furthermore the group share an interest in examples marked emotionally – brutal fouls or players presented in erotic contexts. Both the groups share a fascination for absolute determination, dedication as well as strength in the moments of pain, injuries and prostration.
