The article presents some real examples from the press and the Internet of the functioning of linguistic units foch (≈ the feeling of offence, insult, dissatisfaction) and fochy (≈ resentment, offence) in the modern Polish language. The principal thesis is that the lexicographic descriptions of the vocable foch are misleading in the majority of Polish dictionaries (in particular in all dictionaries of general language). They take into account exclusively the plurale tantum noun fochy (usually as part of the analitism stroić fochy ≈ to bear resentment; to complicate; to sulk), and ignore many instances of the usage of the singular form. The presented draft description of the noun foch encompasses all its aspects, from etymology to pragmatics.
