Summary

In this article social and ethnographic sphere of the text of Jerusalem – where the action of Dina Rubina’s works, Here comes the Messiah! and Jerusalemites, takes place – has been depicted. What has been emphasized is the stress laid by the author on multi-cultural image of the city and its inhabitants, on their religious and devotional variety. The living conditions which the inhabitants of Jerusalem and Israel experience every day – their daily routines and cultural life, as well as, accompanying the characters every day, constant fear resulting from the tensions between the Israeli and Arabs – are presented.
