The article concerns On the Memory of Adam Żeromski (1919), which belongs to the tradition of funeral literature. The text, part fiction and part personal document, was analyzed taking into account Stefan Żeromski›s diaries, his correspondence, the topographical realities of Ochotnicko-Nałęczów, and the contexts of Stefan and Adam Żeromski›s biographies The article specifically addressed the way in which the Nałęczów Popiołówka was presented as a locus ameonus shared by both the father and the son. The author demonstrated that the image of Nałęczów, once formed and determined by the writer’s early experiences, became so deeply rooted in the writer’s imagination that it turned out to be a permanent vision. That very vision, which determined the way of perceiving and describing the realities of Nałęczów, was narrowed down in the story of ‘The Golden Scout’ to the garden surrounding the writer’s summer studio and the landscape of Nałęczów and Bochotnica harmoniously connected with it.
