Summary

The article is devoted to letters by Zofia Ihnatowiczowa – the mother of the poet Janusz A. Ihnatowicza – directed to a priest, Andrzej Zuberbier. These documents are a part of materials deposited by priest Ihnatowicz in the University of Rzeszów library. They constitute a fragment of history both in its individual as well as collective dimension. They are the evidence of the author’s personal experiences and those caused by an incurable disease. They become a special part of our national tradition as they refer to experiencing emigration and derive from emigration. The article addresses the form of the letters, the ways of depicting the recipient, relations between the fact of creating a letter and external conditions – the economic and political situation in the country.
