I adopt the participle term “time-izing” from the literary scholar Anna Legeżyńska, who used it in the description of female poetry in the context of the identity project of the lyrical “I”, and indirectly also from the philosophy of Martin Heidegger. Poetic awareness of time in the works of Adriana Szymańska is manifested in various activities of the “time-izing”, i.e. immersed in time and simultaneously embracing his experience with a multidirectional temporal reflection, “I”. On the other hand, the use of time as a language-cultural or compositive-genological category remains authoritative and external to the text. In Szymańska’s late poetry, the experience of time is expressed through memory (and its metaphors), post-memory, descriptions of matrilineal relations, family representations of Polish fates, concepts of nature that fit into the ideas of panbiologism or posthumanism. Counter-signatures of the poetess as textual answers to various readings, dedications and motto form a hermeneutic field of relations in the works of Adriana Szymańska. It is the result of the author’s long-time active presence in the literary space and her critical-literary activity.
