I examine the lack of historical knowledge among students as a key challenge in teaching polish literature of the second half of the twentieth century, focusing on censorship in the Polish People’s Republic. Combining historical and literary perspectives, I analyze the mechanisms of the censorship apparatus, its impact on cultural circulation, and its pedagogical consequences. The text discusses interventions in works by S. Barańczak, S. Mrożek, and H. Sienkiewicz, as well as forms of surveillance targeting writers. In the practical section I propose activating teaching methods – work with archival documents, censorship-simulation tasks, and comparative textual analysis that foster interpretive skills, historical awareness, and critical reading competencies.
